The Nation Media Group has entered into a partnership with the Government of Botswana to co-host the fifth edition of Kusi Ideas Festival in Gaborone, Botswana.
The theme for the festival, set for 7th to 8th December 2023, is “Africa’s Agenda 2063: Making the Dream Come True”. It is based on the African Union’s Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want, which has been defined as the continent’s blueprint and master plan for transforming it into the global powerhouse of the future.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the President of the Republic of Botswana, H.E. Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi, applauded the initiative, indicating that it is important for Africans to take control of their narrative and position the continent in the global arena. He acknowledged that Kusi can be used to drive the continental agenda through Pan-African collaborations, knowledge-sharing and the use of media platforms.
Additionally, Dr. Mokgweetsi highlighted the need to develop a long-term vision for media in Africa that drives unity, supports development and enables the continent to inform and educate the larger global audience.
This will the fifth edition of the festival with the last one being held in Nairobi, Kenya, on the backdrop of COP27, which had just been concluded in Egypt. The theme focused on climate change, the impact it has had on the continent and the adaptation and mitigation measures that stakeholders must put in place to drive sustainable action to protect people and the planet
The last festival attracted 524 in-person delegates and 3,449 virtual participants from 84 cities in 25 countries. Online, the festival reached 28.6 million people, and 1.83 million on TV.
